Food Waste Management Using Hermetia Illucens Insect

Abstract: In modern agricultural biogas plants, the biowastes are being increasingly used for the biogas production. The food waste is also widely used in larvae breeding. This is an important because, based on biowaste, its proper management and green energy production is possible. This study aims to determine the biogas and methane efficiency of the Hermetia illucens larvae that were fed using the food waste. In the research on the biogas and methane efficiency, the Hermetia illucens larvae were used. The total solids… Show more

“…Growth of insects also produces valuable proteins to be utilized and researched in many fields. Among these insects, the black soldier fly larva (BSFL) has attracted increasing interest for dealing with organic waste. BSFL is highly capable in degrading organic waste and converting these degradations into rich nutrition resources including proteins and lipids. , Noticeably, the major conversion product produced by BSFL is a protein which is widely used in animal feeding. , …”

“…The organic waste fermentation process involving Hermetia illuscens flies in addition to producing plant nutrients and phytohormones, also produces biogas which is a by-product of the fermentation process. (Czekała et al, 2020). according toCzekała et al ( 2020), the anaerobic fermentation process involving the larvae of the Hermetia illuscens fly takes about 29 days.…”

“…Most organic waste can be used effectively equally as a collection of high added-value bio-fertilizers, bio-chemicals and material building blocks after biomass processing, and also as an energy carrier-a fuel [1][2][3]. The latter option is recently considered one of the best organic waste treatment technologies to recover both valuable fertilizing substances and energy from organic waste [4][5][6][7], especially with regard to agricultural waste, the biogas produced from them, and, less often, liquid biofuels.…”
