“…The stratigraphic distribution of the identified foraminiferal species across the Aalenian–Bajocian boundary at Serra da Boa Viagem II section (SBVII) provides a detailed foraminiferal‐based biostratigraphic zonation accurately calibrated with a detailed ammonite‐based biostratigraphic zonation, both correlated with data described for the Bajocian GSSP (Fernández López et al ., , ; Henriques et al ., , ; Rocha et al ., ; Henriques, ; Canales and Henriques, , ).…”

“…The Bajocian GSSP has been defined by the first occurrence of the ammonite assemblage including Hyperlioceras mundum (Buckman) and related species – H. furcatum (Buckman), Braunsina aspera Buckman, B. elegantula (Buckman) – by the onset of different calcareous nannofossil species of Watznaueria , and by an inversion from reversed to normal polarity (Henriques et al ., ). More recently, other fossil groups have been studied in detail across the GSSP, namely brachiopods (Andrade, , ), calcareous nannoplankton (Neto, ; Neto et al ., ; López‐Otálvaro et al ., ) and benthic foraminifers (Canales and Henriques, , ).…”

“…For instance, the species Astacolus dorbignyi, Nodosaria fontinensis, Pseudonodosaria vulgata, Lenticulina muensteri, Citharina clathrata and Eoguttulina liassica occur in the Aalenian-Bajocian GSSP of the Murtinheira section, west Portugal (Canales & Henriques, 2008. Canales & Henriques (2013) suggested that Aalenian-Bajocian benthic foraminifera from the Murtinheira section are typical of the Boreal Realm. This paleozoogeographic similarity contrasts to some degree to the data of Parent et al (2013).…”
