Foreign direct investment, income inequality and country risk

Abstract: Given the continuous debate about the foreign direct investment (FDI)‐inequality nexus, there is an acknowledged need for reconsidering their relationship from a new perspective. Therefore, applying balanced panel data composed of 60 countries from 1998 to 2014, this research estimates a finite mixture model with country risk as a concomitant variable to explore the interrelationships among FDI, inequality, and country risk so as to offer fresh insight into the FDI‐inequality nexus. We present evidence that sh… Show more

“…Various studies, e.g., [10,13,21,[64][65][66][67], have assessed the efficacy of GI to improve GP. Robinson and Stubberud [66] explored whether the influence of GI on GP is consistent across small, medium and large enterprises, which confirmed that large organizations seek to protect and preserve the environment by fostering the GI process.…”

“…To do so, we must first optimally select the number of clusters by using three kinds of information criteria (i.e., Akaike information criterion (AIC), Bayesian information criterion (BIC), corrected Akaike information criteria (CAIC)) that are commonly used in the literature on FMM applications (Zuo, 2016;Ouédraogo, Sawadogo R., and Sawadogo H., 2020;Wang and Lee, 2021). Table 3 demonstrates the results from these criteria for each number of clustered models.…”

“…This method chooses a threshold for the conditioning factor to split the sample into different subgroups. The main concern of this supervised methodology is that it relies on subjective decisions on the choice of threshold for the conditioning factor (Wang and Lee, 2021).…”

“…The study recommended that these countries should adopt policies to encourage foreign direct investment. Wang and Lee (2021) explored the relationship between FDI, inequality and nation risk for the period 1998 to 2014. This study developed a finite mixture model that takes nation risk into account.…”
