Abstract:Serious cracks were found in the pylon of a cable-stayed bridge without backstays. Based on forensic damage investigation, this paper uses the finite element (FE) method incorporating Building Information Modeling (BIM) to analyze the causes of cracking. The BIM model is established based on the survey of design, construction, and service information of the bridge. Then, FE analysis is conducted using BIM information.
