Rosenberg, Hutnik and Davis (1979) carried out a similar type of study in a mixed oak forest in central Pennsylvania, subjected for 25 years to an isolated source of S0 2 (and presumably NO x ) in the form of a coal-burning power plant. It was shown that the importance of Pinus strobus and Betula lenta increased with distance from the emission source, while that of Quercus alba and Acer rubrum decreased, these effects being more pronounced downwind than upwind of the power plant.…”
