The glassy alloys of the family Fe7,B2,.,Si, exhibit a low corrosion resistance. Their corrosion rate decreases with increasing solution pH and they undergo the activetpassive transition only when pH attains 8.4. There is a minor effect of Si on the corrosion rate at the open circuit potential. However, remote from E,,, in acidic solutions Si enhances the active dissolution at anodic potentials and suppresses the hydrogen evolution. On the other hand the ability to passivate and the stability of the passive state increases distinctly with Si concentration.
