Formation dynamics of exciton-polariton vortices created by nonresonant annular pumping

Abstract: We study the spontaneous formation of exciton polariton vortices in an all-optical non-resonantly excited annular trap, which is formed by ring-shaped subpicosecond laser pulses. Since the light emitted by these vortices carries orbital angular momentum (OAM) corresponding to their topological charge, we apply a dedicated OAM spectroscopy technique to detect the OAM of the measurement signal with picosecond time resolution. This allows us to identify the formation of OAM modes and investigate the dynamics of t… Show more

“…The long range spatial and temporal correlation as well as phenomena such as condensation, vortices, and superfluidity have been realized in polaritonic systems [4][5][6][7][8]. So far, experimental studies have focused on static state measurements or exciton dynamics [9], and the highest time resolution is in the order of picosecond [4,10,11]. Nevertheless, room-temperature polariton condensates have shown broad potential in applications of compact polaritonic devices where exploration of the ultrafast dynamics is yet in urgent need.…”

“…In the microcavity structures, the reservoir determines many important properties of the polariton radiation such as the threshold of the polariton laser, multistability, etc., see e.g., Refs. [7][8][9][10][11][12] .…”

“…Then there is also the problem of non-radiative excitons with large in-plane wave vectors [31,33,34]. In heterostructures, the density of the non-radiative excitons strongly depends not only on the experimental conditions of optical excitation, but also on the quality of the heterostructure.…”
