The purpose of the study was to reveal the content and methodology of forming moral and volitional qualities of higher education applicants by means of football. The article reveals the features of forming moral and volitional qualities of higher education applicants by means of football. Based on the study and analysis of psychological and pedagogical literature on the problem under study, the effectiveness of football classes in forming moral and volitional qualities of higher education applicants was clarified. It was proven that the correct application of the content, forms and methods of the presented study has a positive effect on the formation of moral and volitional qualities of those who play football. It was established that during football classes, students develop the ability to act thoughtfully, make responsible decisions, overcome difficulties and work in a team, which are important components of their future professional development. The article briefly highlights the methodology of forming moral and volitional qualities of higher education applicants by means of football, which involves the introduction into the educational process: forms: individual, team and group classes; methods: persuasion, personal example, competition, creating a situation of success, reflexive-explicit, encouragement, instructions, requirements; pedagogical conditions: training physical education teachers and football coaches to implement the methodology for forming moral and volitional qualities of higher education students through football; application of pedagogically appropriate content for forming moral and volitional qualities of higher education students through football; use of effective educational forms and methods to form a stable motivation for football among higher education students; involvement of higher education students in competitive activities; approaches: personally oriented, cultural, competency-based, integrative, problem-based learning, activity-based, systemic; principles: clarity, systematicity and consistency, accessibility, respect for the individual, integrity, subject-subject interaction, creation of conditions for self-development, self-activity and self-regulation, social responsibility, consciousness and activity. So, the results of the formative stage of the experiment established qualitative changes in the levels of formation of moral and volitional qualities of higher education applicants by means of football in the EG. At the same time, in the CG students, no significant changes in the formation of the studied category were detected.

The article examines the main theoretical aspects of the formation of moral and volitional qualities of elementary school students in the conditions of the New Ukrainian School (NUS) by means of sports games. For this purpose, the formation of moral and volitional qualities of middle school students by means of sports games in general secondary education institutions was analyzed. The importance and effectiveness of education of purposefulness, discipline, and self-confidence in institutions of general secondary education is revealed, and the need to involve adolescent students in sports and games is emphasized. Through the theoretical analysis of literary sources and the study of educational practice in the conditions of the National Academy of Sciences, the criteria, indicators, education of moral and volitional qualities of middle school students by means of sports games were determined and characterized. Cognitive criterion (knowledge about the education of moral-willed qualities; understanding of the effectiveness of sports games for the education of moral-willed qualities; understanding the purpose of playing football, volleyball, basketball, handball in the context of educating moral-willed qualities. Motivational criterion (adolescents’ desire to educate moral-willed qualities, to overcome difficulties in the course of classes; interest in sports activities, sports traditions; practical criterion (ability to organize sports classes, ability to show moral qualities during classes; participation in sports and game activities and the ability to achieve the final goal by showing purposefulness, discipline, self-confidence; the ability to carry out assignments showing responsibility for oneself and the sports team. It is noted that the method of education of moral and volitional qualities of primary school students in the conditions of NUS by means of sports games has been developed, which involves the combination of content, forms and methods that are effective in such a context, the implementation of appropriate organizational and pedagogical conditions, taking into account the specified criteria and indicators of the studied category.
