Abstract: With piperidine reacting both as base and nucleophile 2-methylsulfanyl-N-phenacylpyridinium salts 4a, b undergo ring transformation affording 2-[4-(1-piperidino)-(1Z,3E)-1,3-butadienyl]oxazoles 5a, b.
