Formation of poly(Azure A)-C60 photoactive layer as a novel approach in the heterogeneous photogeneration of singlet oxygen

Abstract: Fullerene, C60 photosensitizer was incorporated into poly(Azure A) in the process of electrochemical polymerization from the solution of corresponding dye and fullerene. The synthesized organic layer (PAA_C60/ITO) was characterized by means of cyclic voltammetry, UV-Vis, Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopies. It was shown that PAA_C60/ITO exhibits strong absorption in both UV and Vis regions and that both immobilized photosensitizers, i.e. Azure A and C60, retain their photochemical activity towards 1 O… Show more

“…Both peak potentials of the polymer in acidic media (pH = 2.0–6.0) and anodic peak potential of the monomer depended linearly on the pH with the slope close to −59 mV/pH indicating equal number of the hydrogen ions and electrons transferred. This coincides well with the mechanism of Azure A electropolymerization proposed elsewhere for similar conditions of potential scanning [ 43 ]. An appropriate reaction scheme is presented in Figure 4 .…”

“…As in our previous works [ 49 , 50 ], α-terpinene was used as a chemical trap for the indirect detection of ROS by means of UV–Vis spectroscopy. Since α-terpinene is more stable under white-light illumination than other more common testing systems, such as DPBF in methanol, it was selected as a trap for this study.…”

“…The glass-supported thin layers of CPs with perylene diimide units obtained by spin-coating were applied in the synthesis of ascaridole from α-terpinene [ 137 ]. Moreover, the electrochemical polymerization was proposed as a straightforward process of deposition of the photoactive conjugated films containing phenothiazine and/or fullerene sensitizers [ 138 , 139 , 140 , 141 ]. Lately, Zhou et al reported the polyimide nanosheets formed by combining the perylene core with triazine or heptazine blocks.…”
