Formation of reactive oxygen species by irradiation of cold atmospheric pressure plasma jet to water depends on the irradiation distance

Abstract: Because application of cold atmospheric pressure plasma jet (CAPPJ) to biological samples have taken large attentions, it is important to examine the effects of various CAPPJ parameters on the generation of reactive species. Here, we investigated the generation of reactive species in water by CAPPJ irradiation by changing the following parameters: irradiation time, sample volume, and irradiation distance between the sample surface and plasma jet tip. We measured 1) change in the ESR signal intensity of 4 hydro… Show more

“…In fact, in the presence of 1 mM ascorbic acid as a reducing reagent, virtually no HSQC spectral changes were observed for a CAP-treated Aβ (1-40) solution ( Figure S1d). Various reactive oxygen species, including H 2 O 2 , are supposed to be produced upon water irradiation with CAP [21,22]. In the present study, we confirmed that H 2 O 2 is generated by CAP irradiation in the buffer solution ( Figures S4 and S5).…”

“…We further measure the radial and axial spreading of the green emission in the ambient air by imaging and highly resolved OES techniques. This yields a measure of plasma volume which is an important parameter for a variety of applications 17 . Small size of APPJs often limit their use to small scale processes and materials treatment 18 .…”

“…NTP is effective for regenerating damaged tissue epithelium and thus protects normal tissue in various disease models [7,9,10,28]. This suggests that the use of NTP as an alternative therapy can overcome the In particular, NTPAM is useful because it has an anticancer effect similar to that of existing NTP and can be directly applied to tumors [29][30][31]. The anticancer effects of NTP are broadly related to mechanisms such as apoptosis induction through ROS generation and cytoskeletal modulation [6,31,32], but the detailed underlying mechanisms are unclear.…”

To our knowledge, there have been few studies concerning the mechanism by which NTPAM mediates its anticancer effects.…”
