Formulation and Characterization of New pH Dependent [Alizarin‐poly(4‐vinylpyridine)‐mica] Pigments

Abstract: We formulate for the first time new [Alizarin-poly(4-vinylpyridine)-mica] inorganic@organic pH dependent pigmentary materials. The present formulation is carried out via two steps: (i) the preparation by adsorption of poly(4-vinylpyridine) [P4VP] on mica particles, of two hybrid composite materials [P4VP@Mica], with respectively ratios R ¼ 0.2 and R ¼ 0.5; (ii) the formulation of new pigmentary materials by fixation of Alizarin dyes on [P4VP@Mica] composite materials. The composite materials [P4VP@Mica] were c… Show more

“…2 as well. In the previous article, 14 we succeeded at the adsorption of the poly(4vinylpyridine) on the mica surface with the following [P4VP/mica] ratios R=0.2 and R=0.5. Thermogravimetric measurements show that the P4VP copolymer is more visible in the sample [P4VP/mica] composite material R=0.5 with 0.60% than for the sample [P4VP/mica] composite material R=0.2 which shows 0.48% of P4VP copolymer.…”

“…In the presence of protons (in acidic medium), it becomes charged and water-soluble. The potentiometric (sensitivity with respect to protons), viscosity, associative, and conformational behaviors are well known [2,3]. The bentonite is the most smectite clay commonly used due to its high permeability, high surface area, swelling behavior, adsorption, and high cation exchange capacity (CEC) [4].…”

“…Recently, much attention has been focused on development of new organic‐inorganic composite materials of prospective use in many areas because of their combined features of inorganic nanoparticles and organic polymer matrix . A lot of studies show that introducing nanosilica into polymers obviously improves some properties such as tensile strength, abrasion resistance, scratch resistance, hardness, etc., and finds wide range of potential application in areas as coating, plastic, fibers, photocatalysis, optics, biotechnology, and so on .…”
