Fossil fuel savings, carbon emission reduction and economic attractiveness of medium-scale integrated biomass gasification combined cycle cogeneration plants

Abstract: The paper theoretically investigates the system made up of fluidized bed gasifier, SGT-100 gas turbine and bottoming steam cycle. Different configurations of the combined cycle plant are examined. A comparison is made between systems with producer gas (PG) and natural gas (NG) fired turbine. Supplementary firing of the PG in a heat recovery steam generator is also taken into account. The performance of the gas turbine is investigated using in-house built Engineering Equation Solver model. Steam cycle is … Show more

“…A common conclusion is that gasification is attractive as it provides more diverse forms of energy and less environmental pollution than conventional combustion. The scale of the plant, however, significantly affects the profitability of related investments and barriers must be faced by stakeholders in the wide dissemination of the technology and for fulfilling the requirements by the society [5].…”

“…With the development of industry, the consumption of fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum, and natural gas increases while the problem of the efficient utilization of energy arises. Coal is the most important energy in China. To realize the efficient and clean utilization of coal resources, it is one of the most effective technological approaches to apply the coal gasification technology to obtain producer gas. , The main combustible components of producer gas are CO and H 2 while the noncombustible components are CO 2 and N 2 . , The producer gas in industries is usually mixed with water gas and mainly used as the fuel for heating furnaces, heat treatment furnaces, and IGCC system boilers. Due to the sensitivity of producer gas to the variety of coal or biomass sources and the gasification process, its components are not constant, which may make great effects on the combustion characteristics of producer gas.…”

“…Therefore, these fossil fuel based plastics accumulate in the environment when they are disposed. Studies regarding environmental pollution problem have been conducted in the recent years [6][7][8][9]. The PLA is a compostable and biodegradable thermoplastic produced from renewable resources and has the potential to replace non-biodegradable plastics from non-renewable sources since PLA has strong mechanical properties comparable to non-degradable plastics [10,11].…”
