Four DNA Polymorphisms on the Short Arm of the X Chromosome: Allele Frequencies in a German and in a Turkish Population

Abstract: Four restriction fragment length polymorphisms, revealed by cloned arbitrary X chromosome segments (L1.28, RC8, pD2, 754) were studied in samples (50 individuals each) of a German and a Turkish population. All previously reported alleles of these polymorphisms were found in both populations, except the infrequent RC8 allele B3 (3.0 kb fragment), which was absent in both groups. The observed minor alleles were found to be rarer in the German series than in the Turkish group, but there was no conclusive evidence… Show more

“…However, compared to the previ ous studies from Europe and India, the pres ent allele frequencies of the English and Maratha Indians show no significant difference. Therefore, the present sample is a satisfactory representation of the respective groups on which further genetic analyses can be per formed [4,13,14], Genetic heterogeneity analyses indicate that for all four probes Parsis do not show any significant variation compared to the Spanish, while compared to the English population, highly significant heterogeneity was observed with probe p99-6 (y} = 13.90; d.f. = 1; p <0.0001).…”

“…The DXS9 probe has previously been studied only in the Turkish and a few Eu ropean populations [4]. A 6*2 allele fre quency of 22% was observed in the Tur kish population whereas the European frequency ranged from 8 to 16%.…”

“…The frequencies of restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs) detected by these probes differ in different human popula tions [3,4], However, the information on the RFLPs with these probes is still too lim ited to allow an analysis of regional and racial variations. The present study adds data on DNA polymorphisms identified with DXS7 and DXS9 probes in popula tion samples of Caucasians and Negroids from South Africa, Chinese from Singa pore, and Marathis and Muslims from In dia.…”
