Four modified sodium alginate/carboxymethylcellulose blends for prednisone delivery

Abstract: Polysaccharides have been widely used for the development of drug delivery systems. These systems can be physicochemically modified to enhance their stabilities and control their drug release profiles. However, such modifications cannot alter their biocompatibility or toxicity. Herein, four structurally modified sodium alginate/carboxymethylcellulose blends are synthesized and loaded with prednisone, and the effects of the modifications on their hydrolytic degradation rates, biocompatibilities, toxicities, and… Show more

“…An amorphous feature at an angle (21°) manifested the SA pattern [4,17]. The blend manifests the immense band at 2θ = 21.6° that is allocated to the amorphous aura of the two virgin polymers [4,18]. Finally indicate from the blending the amorphous polymers have a flexible polymeric backbone and investigate the interaction and miscibility among two biopolymers.…”

“…Polysaccharides are biopolymers that attract interest as promising drug delivery carriers due to their unique properties, such as biocompatibility, non-toxicity, biodegradability, and high availability [178]. The anion polysaccharides could act as suitable ligands for Bi 3+ , and the complex formed could reduce bismuth intake and enhance Bi efficacy.…”

“…Thiobutylamidine (TBA) salts of alginate hydrogels synthesized in conjunction with diamines and 2-Chloro-Nmethyl pyridinium iodide (CMPI) are promising materials for the treatment of invertebral disc syndrome when compared to conventionally used hyaluronan gels, which suffer from rapid enzymatic hydrolysis. [39] Inspired by this research, Silva et al [47] created four structurally modified sodium alginate/ carboxymethylcellulose SA/CMC blends to deliver Prednisone to inflammatory sites. Such cytocompatible alginate blends impart mechanical strength and can be more suitable for clinical applications.…”
