“…EEM ϭ external elastic membrane; LA ϭ lumen area; LD ϭ lumen diameter; MLA ϭ minimum lumen area. burden to be the only independent predictor of cardiac events (11). The Mayo Clinic group reported a series of 214 patients recruited in an 8-year period in which the cutoff value for MLA was 7.5 mm 2 (9).…”
Angiographic measurements are not reliable in the assessment of intermediate LMCA lesions. An MLA of 6 mm(2) or more is a safe value for deferring revascularization of the LMCA, given the application of the clinical and angiographic inclusion criteria used in this study.

“…A minimal lumen area Ͼ7.5 mm 2 suggests that revascularization may be safely deferred (490). A minimal lumen area between 6 and 7.5 mm 2 requires further physiological assessment, such as measurement of FFR (487,500). For non-left main stenoses, minimal lumen diameter Ͼ2.0 mm and minimal lumen area Ͼ4.0 mm 2 correlate with low event rates (489).…”

“…Importantly, plaque burden was the only predictor of events at the 5-year follow-up for LMCA lesions left untreated. 21 The strengths and limitations of IVUS and FFR to assess the severity of ambiguous left main lesions are summarized in Table 2. It may be useful to select the modality of basal LMCA assessment based on several criteria.…”

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
