Abstract

general anesthesia statistical analysis of results was conducted utilizing "P" values with different curves to show the results. RESULTS: 95% ( 57 cases ) showed improvement and regression of symptoms ( p<0.05 )after plasmapheresis. 5% ( 3 cases ) were not improved because these children were hemodynamically unstable. Main encountered complications included [ hypotension 53% -hypocalcemia 8.3% and hypersensitivity reactions 6.6% ]6 cases (out 60-10%) had severe anemia (one case was TTP and the other cases were autoimmune hemolytic anemia þ 4 cases with S.L.E). All other 54 cases (90%) had normal hemoglobin levels.5 cases had thrombocytopenia (8,3%). They were (1 case with TTP and 4 cases with S.L.E). BUN, S. creatinine, S. lytes and Caþþ were normal for all cases except TTP. This case of TTP had high BUN, S. creatinine, low S.Caþþ and high S.Kþ. All cases were negative for HBSAG, HCVab and HIV antibodies. Improvement of the condition after plasmapheresis was found in 57 out of 60 studied cases (95%) CONCLUSIONS: Plasmapheresis was an excellent modality for treatment of different autoimmune diseases in children.
