Abstract

Zionism led him to Israel. In 1959 he moved to Jerusalem and the Hadassah Hospital as Chairman of Urology. Within a short time he became the leader of the entire urological community. Many of his students became the leaders and chairmen throughout the country. It was here that he perfected a new approach to the Retropubic Prostatectomy, which was soon adopted as the "gold standard". He published more than 300 scientific papers, and edited a book entitled "The Pharmacology of the Urinary Tract". He described alpha-adrenergic receptors in the urinary tract, utilizing blockers for the treatment of obstructive pathology. His paper in European Urology in 1977 (Eur. Urol. 1977, 3:1-6) describing the findings was chosen as one of the most important papers ever published in the history of this journal and leading to the comment that "The urological fraternity and their patients owe a colossal debt to Marco Caine" CONCLUSIONS: Until his last days, was a member of countless scientific societies, a teacher, and will be remembered as a mentor and leader of the Israeli medical community.
