Fracture Behavior of Rock with Initial Damage: Theoretical, Experimental, and Numerical Investigations

Abstract: Geomaterials such as rock mass often have initial damage under the influence of long-term geological action and hydration corrosion environment. The initial damage affects the integrity and stability of the rock mass, resulting in a difference in the mechanical properties of jointed rock mass and intact one. Therefore, the study of the fracture and failure characteristics of the jointed rock mass is of great significance. Most of the previous researches into the fracture behavior of rock with initial damage ar… Show more

“…Therefore, the non-destructive state of the research rock should be analyzed according to the formation conditions; in order to better understand the non-destructive state, a quantitative definition of non-destructive state wave speed determined from the drilling condition of rock is necessary. The non-destructive initial wave velocity is defined as the maximum value of the test results in relation to the statistical analysis and is given by Zhang [46]. The statistical formula for the longitudinal wave velocity is applied here and is defined as:…”

“…Rock instability and failure is a type of engineering disaster commonly encountered in underground rock construction [1][2][3], which seriously affects the safety of the project. There are many factors affecting the rock engineering stability, including geological factors such as the initial stress state of the rock mass, the rock mechanical properties and groundwater, as well as engineering factors such as construction methods and support installation time [4,5].…”

“…Water infiltration and hydraulic coupling have a greater impact on rock mechanical properties [6,7], As the main body of the coral reef, its physical and engineering properties determine the construction of various projects. At the same time, due to the special composition and complex origin of reef limestone, the properties of the reef limestone are quite different from other common sedimentary rocks [8,9], and the seepage of the rock and the defects of the rock itself have a great influence on the mechanical properties [10,11], more serious in hydration corrosive environments [12,13]. However, the marine environment contains a large number of corrosive ions, which has a serious adverse effect on the service performance and structural safety of coral sand cementbased structures [14][15][16][17].…”
