Fragmentation of relativistic oxygen nuclei in interactions with a proton

Abstract: The data on investigation of inelastic interactions of 16 O nuclei in a hydrogen bubble chamber at an incident momentum of 3.25 A GeV/c are presented. Separate characteristics as fragments isotope composition and topological cross-sections of fragmentation channels are given. The processes of formation of light fragments and unstable nuclei, and the break-up of the 16 O nucleus into multicharge fragments are investigated. A comparison between the experimental data and the calculations of the cascade fragmentat… Show more

“…The average relative error of the proton momenta does not exceed 3.4% for tracks with length L > 35 cm. In this case with additional momentum cuts also fragments with Z ≤ 4 can be well separated by mass number [10][11][12][13][14].…”

“…The relativistic 9 Be nucleus fragmentation is an attractive source for 8 Be generation due to the absence of a combinatorial background. The 8 Be nucleus reveals itself in the formation of α-particle pairs having an extremely small opening angle of the order of a few 10 −3 rad in the range of a few GeV.…”

“…The 8 Be nucleus reveals itself in the formation of α-particle pairs having an extremely small opening angle of the order of a few 10 −3 rad in the range of a few GeV. The estimation of the 8 Be production probability will make it possible to clear up the interrelation between n-8 Be and α-n-α excitation modes which are important in understanding the 9 Be structure and fragmentation of heavier nuclei.…”
