The research on Carlo III bridge in Moiano (Benevento, Italy) has been an opportunity for testing the HBIM methodology to the architectural heritage in terms of not only gathering information but as a design tool. The bridge, almost without previous drawings and documents, was surveyed with an integrated approach using laser scanner, photogrammetry and topography. Data produced a metrically reliable HBIM model, complete with graphical and non-graphical information, to be used in a maintenance and restoration project.

Betonbauwerke wie Brücken sind ein wesentlicher Bestandteil des Straßennetzes. Um die Sicherheit und Gebrauchstauglichkeit einer Brücke zu gewährleisten, sind regelmäßige, z. T. aufwendige Inspektionen und Untersuchungen erforderlich, um Schäden an einem Bauwerk frühzeitig zu erkennen. Mit innovativen zerstörungsfreien Untersuchungsmethoden ist es möglich, den Schadenserkennungsprozess von Bauwerken zeitlich und kostenmäßig zu optimieren. In der Vergangenheit wurden bereits Drohnen für Oberflächenaufnahmen von Brücken mit Laserscan oder digitaler Bildgebung eingesetzt, um Schäden wie Risse und Abplatzungen zu erkennen. Diese Methoden sind zeitsparender als die herkömmlichen, komplexeren Verfahren zur Sichtprüfung. Um auch Schäden unter der Oberfläche mittels Flächenaufnahmen nachweisen zu können, wurde ein vielversprechender Ansatz – die Thermografie – untersucht. Ein großer Vorteil der Thermografie ist die flexible Einsatzmöglichkeit und zerstörungsfreie Anwendung am Bauwerk. Die Methode ermöglicht eine thermografische Aufzeichnung der gesamten Brücke. Durch Temperaturunterschiede auf der Oberfläche können Schäden wie Delamination, Hohlräume und Feuchtigkeitsstellen im Beton erkannt werden. Um die Zuverlässigkeit dieser Methode zur Erkennung der genannten Schäden gewährleisten zu können, wurden die Erkennungsgenauigkeiten und ‐grenzen ermittelt. Zu diesem Zweck wurden Tests an Betonproben durchgeführt, die Delamination, Hohlräume und feuchte Bereiche in unterschiedlichen Größen und Tiefen im Beton aufwiesen. Während der Tests wurden die Betonproben aktiv erhitzt. Im Laufe des Abkühlvorgangs erfolgte die Aufnahme der Oberfläche mit der Wärmekamera. Die Erstellung von nichtlinearen Finite‐Elemente‐Modellen der Testkörper ermöglichte weitere Variationen der Geometrien und der Temperaturen der Betonproben. Mittels der erhaltenen Daten konnte die Detektionswahrscheinlichkeit der untersuchten Schäden ermittelt und eine Empfehlung für die Anwendung dieser Methode gegeben werden.

The implementation of UAS is bringing easiness and time saving activities into the currently construction site task. In the construction industry, diverse and relevant benefits of the technology have been identified through the project life cycle, such as monitoring project progress report, faster and low-cost land measurements and 3D modelling. Currently, the most valuable benefits of the UAS in the construction industry are related to automation the construction process, low cost, greater speed and safer real-time data collection compare with the traditional methods, and a reliable replacement over satellites and manned vehicles in terms of high-resolution images. However, there is a lack of exemplification and clarity of the actual implementation of the UAS in the construction industry in terms of adoption process and impacted usage. Therefore, a systematic literature review was carried out in order to explore the literature available of the topic related to implementation of unmanned aerial system in the construction industry, the most relevant tasks, cases, areas of usage and the reasons of applying it. The finding of this paper is providing exemplification models of current usage such as visualisation and disaster management, evolution map of the UAS according to the publication numbers and construction project stages when to use the UAS.
