The purpose of this article is to report on an ongoing suite of research that aims to develop a design‐led approach to help small and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs) understand their innovation readiness. At present, a number of tools are available to organizations when carrying out an audit to determine their innovation readiness; however, none of these methodologies have been connected to the practice of design‐led innovation. This article begins to address this gap by presenting a review of a 12‐hour intervention carried out in collaboration with a fund‐management organization located in northeast England as part of a European Union–funded research and innovation program, Creative Fuse. The article utilizes a qualitative approach guided by case study principles, semi‐structured interviews, and action research to reflect on the proposed design‐led approach to assessing innovation readiness. Advantages and challenges to the approach are considered with the intention of developing a practical approach to assessing innovation readiness within SMEs, which builds on design principles in order to rapidly outline the opportunities and potential barriers facing organizations when it comes to identifying areas for future innovation.

The global knowledge ecosystem is affected by ethnocentrism and witnesses Western monopolies of knowledge that built hegemonic structures and narratives. The paper proposes a vision that shifts from processes of knowledge power and control to processes of knowledge ownership and leadership through new international interactions based on increased accessibility and visibility in design publications. The idea of building a design network between Latin countries led to the foundation of the Latin Network for the Development of Design Processes. The 8 th International Forum Design as a Process represents a testbed for this new experimentation of community-led knowledge targeting the Latin Network and Global South countries. The research presents a new frame of knowledge accessibility based on different assessment values that acknowledge the intertwin of cultural identity and vernacular design, in favour of equity and inclusivity.

“…Po pierwsze, jest to podejście, które dostarcza nowych założeń ontologicznych, epistemologicznych i metodologicznych zgodnych z myśleniem o zarządzaniu jako nauce praktycznej (czyli jako nauce o wytworach działań człowieka w znaczeniu, jakie temu pojęciu nadał Simon) (Aken, 2004;Huff i in., 2006;Gasparski, 2007;Hevner i in., 2019;Simon, 1969Simon, /1996Schön, 1983). Po drugie, w wymiarze praktycznym stanowi nowatorskie podejście do tworzenia inno-wacyjnych rozwiązań, wykorzystując założenia i logikę rozumowania typowe dla pracy projektantów i inżynierów (Bailey i in., 2018;Brown, 2008;Bucolo i Matthews, 2010;Liedtka i Ogilvie, 2011). Innowacje zarządzania – uważane za trudne do powielenia – mogą stanowić źródło względnie trwałej przewagi konkurencyjnej, zwiększonej wydajności, poprawy produktywności, a także wyników finansowych przedsiębiorstw. Choć innowacje te zyskują coraz większą powszechność i uznanie, metody i procesy ich rozwoju wciąż pozostają niewystarczająco zbadane i rozpoznane. Słaby rozwój teorii zarządzania w wymiarze jej praktycznej przydatności i rzeczywistego wpływu na codzienne decyzje i działania menedżerów wobec przybierającej na sile transformacji w wymiarze społecznym i technologicznym jest ważnym argumentem za poszukiwaniem nowego podejścia do innowacji zarządzania. Celem podjętych badań jest w związku z powyższym rozpoznanie stosunkowo nowego podejścia do innowacji opartego na metodologii i praktyce projektowania oraz sformułowanie podstawowych przesłanek wykorzystania tego podejścia do badania innowacji zarządzania. Metodą zastosowaną do rozwiązania problemu naukowego była metoda dedukcji odniesiona do pogłębionego i krytycznego studium literatury z zakresu innowacji zarządzania, współczesnych podejść opartych na projektowaniu oraz epistemologii i metodologii nauk o zarządzaniu określanych jako nauki praktyczne. Głównym rezultatem badań jest sformułowanie podstawowych przesłanek wykorzystania założeń podejścia opartego na projektowaniu do badania innowacji zarządzania wraz z wyjaśnieniem ich implikacji dla nauk o zarządzaniu.
