Free convection in a square cavity filled with a Casson fluid under the effects of thermal radiation and viscous dissipation

Abstract: Purpose The main purpose of this numerical work is to study free convection of Casson fluid in a square differentially heated cavity taking into account the effects of thermal radiation and viscous dissipation. Design/methodology/approach The cavity is heated from the left vertical wall and cooled from the right vertical wall while horizontal walls are insulated. The governing partial differential equations invoking Rosseland approximation for thermal radiation with corresponding boundary conditions have been… Show more

“…The rheological model of Casson fluid is derived as below [ 9 , 10 ]: where and are ( i , j )th component of the deformation rate, is a critical rate of the product of deformation rate, and is dynamic viscosity, yield stress of liquid. The Casson liquid satisfies the Boussinesq approximation.…”

“…The Casson liquid is one kind of non-Newtonian liquid and it is a shear thinning (pseudo-plastic) liquid which behaves like an elastic solid [ 5 ]. Pop and Sheremet [ 9 ] explored the convective stream of Casson fluid in an enclosed space in the occurrence of radiation and viscous dissipation. They established that the Casson parameter favors energy transferal augmentation and stream intensification.…”

“…They employed Laplace method to describe velocity and temperature pro les. Pop et al [18] numerically studied Casson uid in a square cavity considering the combined e ect of thermal radiation and viscous dissipation. The result shows that heat transfer rate enhances for increasing values of Casson parameter.…”
