Abstract:Background: Red blood cells (RBCs) transfusion is related to perioperative neurocognitive disorders. The toxic effect of free-heme has been identified in many pathologies. However, the underlying mechanisms of RBCs transfusion or free-heme in cognitive impairment have not been clearly explored.
