Free vibration analysis of a laminated honeycomb sandwich panel: a suggested analytical solution and a numerical validation

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the free vibration response of a laminated honeycomb sandwich panels (LHSP) for aerospace applications. Higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) was simplified for the dynamic analysis of LHSP. Furthermore, the effects of honeycomb parameters on the value of natural frequency (NF) of vibration were explored. Design/methodology/approach This paper applies HSDT to the analysis of composite LHSP to derive four vibration differential equations of motion and… Show more

“…Te author makes an assumption that the honeycomb deformations' linear elastic response and the consequent core characteristics are solely dependent on the bending of the core cell walls. Te stretching and shearing of cell walls were studied as additional deformation modes [26][27][28]. FEM has been used in numerous previous publications for estimating efective material characteristics regarding honeycomb architectures.…”

“…These structures were used in various applications, such as aerospace and protection fields (Lv et al , 2021). Basically, sandwich structures consist of an upper and lower skin with a core, as shown in Figure 1 (Al-Khazraji et al , 2022). The core layer can take various configurations and be made from different materials, depending on the application.…”

“…The vibration response of sandwich structures was studied in the literature to find the natural frequencies of vibration and their mode shapes [7][8][9]. Sandwich vibrations were studied analytically by deriving a set of equations of motion based on plate theory and solving it to yield the natural frequencies of vibration [10,11].…”
