French translation and validation of the Achilles Tendon Total Rupture Score “ATRS”

Abstract: Background: To provide a cross-cultural French adaptation of the Achille's Tendon Total Rupture Score (ATRS) and to assess its psychometric performances. Method: The ATRS questionnaire was first translated and inter-culturally adapted into French according to international guidelines. Then, 95 subjects were recruited to complete the French version of the ATRS twice (2 weeks of interval). The SF-36 and VISA-A were used as comparative questionnaires. The psychometric properties of the questionnaire were evaluate… Show more

“…The Cronbach's alpha value of 1.0 indicated good internal consistency. The ICC value of the Thai-ATRS (0.95, 95% CI 0.925-0.968) is in agreement with other cross-culturally adapted versions of the ATRS [4,5,7,11,22,28,29,40,42,45], with ICC values above 0.9. The Cronbach's alpha if an item was deleted and the ITC demonstrated high correlation coeicients and balance for all items in the Thai-ATRS.…”

“…The sample size for a correlation coefficient analysis for construct validity testing (N = [(Z α + Z β )/C] 2 + 3, C = 0.5*ln[(1 + r)/(1−r)] ( α = 0.05, β = 0.20, r = 0.50)) was calculated to be 29. Previous studies evaluating the validity and reliability of the ATRS enrolled 30–112 patients [4, 5, 7, 11, 15, 22, 28, 32, 40, 42, 45]. Therefore, we adhered to a recommended minimum of 50 patients.…”

“…We found an MDC of 17.0 at the individual level and 2.1 at the group level. The ATRS has shown acceptable validity and reliability in several languages [110][111][112][113][114][115][116]118,119,[303][304][305] . In addition, the responsiveness of a PROM is necessary to assess before it can be used in studies evaluating change over time.…”

“…The team therefore proposes to use the "Achilles tendon total rupture score" (ATRS), which is a scale (Figure 2) evaluating the functional impact of Achilles rupture, as a validation criterion for the RTS. Thus, even if the threshold value of the scale has not yet been defined, a mediocre score could be synonymous with no RTS (26). [27], which explains that patients with pain at three months have a slower recovery of the muscular endurance of the triceps sural according to examinations at six months and one year from the rupture but can ultimately recover in a comparable way to the healthy side.…”
