Frequency Diversity Array for Near-Field Focusing

Abstract: In this study, a numerical optimization method is proposed to achieve the near-field focusing of square arrays and circular arrays. This method introduced the frequency diversity array (FDA) approach to change the initial amplitude and working frequency. By adjusting the working state of each antenna, the field distribution on any plane can be artificially controlled. To analyze the FDA, a mathematical model for the FDA has been built and the model has been optimized by a numerical algorithm. The results of tw… Show more

“…FDA has been receiving increasing attention due to its unique range and angular spatial focusing properties [11][12][13][14]. To optimize the FDA dot-shaped beampattern, rangeangle coupling in the FDA beampattern can be removed by using nonlinear array element spacing to break the periodicity of FDA [15] and by using a logarithmically increasing frequency offset [16].…”

“…By adjusting the radius of the circles, the antenna achieves a controllable focal distance. A numerical optimization method was proposed to achieve the near-field focusing of square arrays and circular arrays, using the frequency diversity array approach to adjust the initial amplitude and operating frequency [19]. Numerical methods and full-wave simulation were used to verify the design.…”
