Frequency-Locked Loop-Based Estimation of Single-Phase Grid Voltage Parameters

Abstract: Estimation of Amplitude, instantaneous phase and frequency of single-phase grid voltage signal have been studied in this paper. The proposed approach uses a novel circular limit cycle oscillator (CLO) coupled with frequency-locked loop (FLL). Due to the nonlinear structure of the CLO, the proposed frequency adaptive CLO technique is robust against various perturbations faced in the practical settings e.g. discontinuous jump of phase, frequency and amplitude. Global stability analysis of the CLO and local stabi… Show more

“…For this purpose, the proposed adaptive observer (AO) is implemented in Matlab/Simulink using Runge-Kutta discretization technique with a sampling frequency of 10 kHz. As a comparison tool, circular limit cycle oscillator -frequency-locked loop (CLO) [39] and adaptive notch filter (ANF) [14] are selected. Both of the comparison techniques are nonlinear in nature and can handle DC bias.…”

“…In addition, there are other aspects of design choices in the FLL design. For instance, both (13) and (13) are able to achieve the goal of FAL. It is necessary to take as many design choices as possible into account, in order to further improve existing FLLs for advantageous performance.…”

“…In contrast to PLLs, FLLs usually use the estimated frequency as a feedback variable. Growing interest has been directed to FLLs as another breed of grid synchronization techniques, which include notch filter-based FLL [6]- [11], limit cycle oscillator-based FLL [12], [13], linear Kalman filter-based FLL [14], consecutive sample-based FLL [15], moving window filter-based FLL [16], moving-window discrete Fourier transform-based FLL [17], etc. Since notch filter-based FLL possesses low complexity and good harmonic suppression capability [6], [7], it has attracted increasing attention.…”
