The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has been raging around the world since January 2020. Pregnancy places the women in a unique immune scenario which may allow severe COVID‐19 disease. In this regard, the potential unknown effects of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) on mothers and fetuses have attracted considerable attention. There is no clear consistent evidence of the changes in the immune status of pregnant women after recovery from COVID-19. In this study, we use multiparameter flow cytometry and Luminex assay to determine the immune cell subsets and cytokines, respectively, in the peripheral blood and umbilical cord blood from pregnant women recovering from COVID-19 about 3 months (n=5). Our results showed decreased percentages of Tc2, Tfh17, memory B cells, virus-specific NK cells, and increased percentages of naive B cells in the peripheral blood. Serum levels of IL-1ra and MCP-1 showed a decreased tendency in late recovery stage (LRS) patients. Meanwhile, there was no significant difference in immune cell subsets in the umbilical cord blood. The placentas from LRS patients showed increased CD68+ macrophages infiltration and mild hypoxic features. The inflammatory damage of the placenta may be related to the antiviral response. Since the receptors, ACE2 and TMPRSS2, utilized by SARS-CoV-2 are not co-expressed in the placenta, so it is extremely rare for SARS-CoV-2 to cause infection through this route and the impact on the fetus is negligible.

Objective: To investigate the causes of death in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) on maintenance hemodialysis and its influencing factors. Methods: This is a retrospective study. A total of 300 patients with chronic renal failure undergoing maintenance hemodialysis who were admitted to the Affiliated Hospital of Hebei University from March 2020 to October 2022 were selected as subjects. Various information of patients were collected. In addition, 80 dead patients in this group were investigated for the cause of death, including cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, infections, multi organ failure, and other causes, and the death-related conditions of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, such as triglyceridr,,total cholesterol, and in blood lipid levels were analyzed. Results: Among the 80 dead patients, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases accounted for a higher proportion of death (66%). Univariate Logistic regression analysis showed that advanced age, plasma homocysteine, blood parathyroid hormone, hyperphosphatemia, hypertension, high volume load and left ventricular hypertrophy were risk factors for death in patients with chronic renal failure on maintenance hemodialysis. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that high volume load, left ventricular hypertrophy and anemia were risk factors for death on maintenance hemodialysis. The levels of hemoglobin (HGB) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in patients who died of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases were significantly lower than those in the non-cardio-cerebrovascular death group (P=0.00), and the levels of serum phosphorus, TG and TC were significantly higher than those in the non-cardio-cerebrovascular death group (P, P=0.00; TG, P=0.02; TC, P=0.01). Conclusion: Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in patients with chronic renal failure on maintenance hemodialysis. Risk Factors for Left Ventricular Hypertrophy in Patients with Diabetic Kidney Disease: A Multi-Center Study

One of the earliest echocardiographic features of the left ventricle explored extensively was left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). Numerous studies have identified a few risk factors for LVH, however, there are few for people with diabetic kidney disease (DKD). Therefore, we evaluated the risk factors in DKD patients with LVH by analyzing laboratory data and clinical traits. Methods: In total, 500 DKD patients in the Baoding area from February 2016 and June 2020 were admitted and classified as an experimental group (240 cases, LVH group) and a control group (260 cases, non-LVH group). The clinical parameters and laboratory tests of the participants were collected and analyzed retrospectively. Results: Compared with the control group, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), body mass index (BMI), intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH), systolic blood pressure, and 24-hour urine protein were higher in the experimental group (all P<0.01). Multivariable logistic regression analysis results confirmed that high BMI (OR=1.332, 95% CI 1.016-1.537, P=0.006), LDL (OR=1.279, 95% CI 1.008-1.369, P=0.014) and 24-hour urine proteins (OR=1.446, 95% CI 1.104-1.643, P=0.016) were statistically significant. The ROC analysis illustrated that the optimum cutoff value of BMI, LDL, and 24-hour urine proteins for diagnosis of LVH in patients with DKD was 27.36 kg/m 2 , 4.18 mmol/L, and 1.42 g respectively. Conclusion:The increase in BMI, LDL, and 24-hour urine proteins quantification are independent risk factors for LVH in patients with DKD.
