Frequency of Peripheral Nerve Injury in Trauma in Emergency Settings

Abstract: IntroductionNeurological injuries because of trauma and accidents are common but rarely reported or examined in Pakistan. In this study, we will determine the frequency of neurological deficits reported in the emergency unit in patients presenting with acute trauma. MaterialThis study was conducted in an emergency unit of tertiary care setting in Karachi, Pakistan. One hundred patients presenting with mild to moderate trauma were enrolled in the study after informed consent. Patients with severe trauma requiri… Show more

“…Particularly, in the field of medical sciences, one of the major afflictions is to control the continually increasing cases of life‐long disability or physical dependency due to nerve injuries, which develop as a result of different kinds of accidents particularly roadside motor vehicles collisions, gunshots, and sudden fall (Kouyoumdjian et al., 2017 ). Unfortunately, these incidents are among the major causative agents behind PNI development, predominantly in over‐populated underdeveloped countries like Pakistan, where the traffic control system is already compromised (Mushtaq et al., 2021 ). Though medical science contributes significantly in controlling the variety of health issues by introducing a huge number of therapeutic ways, yet some complications still need to be addressed on an urgent basis to get rid of them.…”

“…et al, 2017). Unfortunately, these incidents are one of the leading causes of PNI development, especially in over-packed, stunted countries like Pakistan, where the transportation system is already overburdened (Mushtaq et al, 2021). The pinprick test was used to measure sensory function recovery after sciatic nerve injury.…”

“…Regulating and tracking cases of life‐long disability or biological reliance caused by nerve damage caused by various types of crashes, most notably roadside motor vehicle crashes, gunfire, and sudden falls, is one of the most difficult issues in the field of health research (Kouyoumdjian et al, 2017 ). Unfortunately, these incidents are one of the leading causes of PNI development, especially in over‐packed, stunted countries like Pakistan, where the transportation system is already overburdened (Mushtaq et al, 2021 ).
