“…Cr 3 : Colquiriites of the general formula Li Me II Me III F 6 (Me II Ca, Sr, Cd; Me III Al, Ga, Ti, V, Cr, Fe) (e.g., Cr:LiSAF [9], Cr:LiCAF [10], Cr:LiSGaF [11], Cr:LiSCAF [12] and LiSrCrF 6 (LiChrom) [13]) have been attracting a great deal of attention as an important and versatile solid-state laser gain media since late 80 s. This attention is not gratuitous, since Cr:Colquiriites have several favorable laser characteristics including: (i) strong and broad absorption bands around 630 nm enabling wavelength and polarization flexible direct diode pumping by low-cost diodes [14,15], (ii) broad gain bandwidths around 800 nm providing total tunability from 720 to 1110 nm [10,[16][17][18] and enabling generation of pulses on a 10 fs level [19][20][21], (iii) near-unity quantum efficiency to allow construction of quite efficient lasers. Hence, Cr:Colquiriites are the leading candidate for developing low-cost and compact tunable and femtosecond laser systems in the near infrared (720-1110 nm) and ultraviolet-blue-visible spectral regions (360-555 nm) [22][23][24].…”
