“…On the other side, pure ITP seems to be due to platelet destruction for the cross‐reaction between the anti‐COVID‐19 IgG and the platelet membrane components. If this immune dysregulation occurs, the response to corticosteroids and Ig could be favourable, like in our experience and in other cases reported in literature [2–7]. The practical guidance for the management of adult ITP during the COVID‐19 pandemic also endorses this evidence.…”

“…Since the start of the novel pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus‐2 (SARS‐CoV2), known as COVID‐19, different cases of ITP in infected subjects have been reported from all over the world. Most of these reports are describing newly diagnosed ITP (ND‐ITP) in COVID‐19 patients [ 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 ]; some authors also report subjects with chronic ITP infected with SARS‐CoV2, either relapsing or not [ 8 , 9 ].…”

“…In another study, a young COVID-19 positive woman who delivered a stillbirth at 29 weeks into gestation was also diagnosed with thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura [35]. Interestingly, new-onset immune thrombocytopenia post-mild COVID-19 has been reported during the pandemic [36], and also following Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination [37], which indicates that the etiology of this condition is more complex than can be explained by the adenoviral vectors alone.…”

“…Table 1 compares our patient's case with seven other reported cases of relapsing ITP following COVID-19 infection [15][16][17][18]. Our patient was significantly younger than the other seven patients, who ranged in age from 53 to 74 years.…”

“…There was no gender predominance (four male, four female), and none of the patients were reported to have concurrent autoimmune diseases. The interval between the time of COVID-19 infection and initial diagnosis of thrombocytopenia ranged from zero to eight weeks [ 16 , 17 ], and three of the eight patients were diagnosed with ITP before they became symptomatic, presumably by routine lab testing while they were hospitalized. Our patient was not admitted to the hospital during her COVID-19 infection and was diagnosed with ITP only when she developed symptoms eight weeks later.…”
