Fretting wear of the nitrided medium carbon steel under line contact condition at an elevated temperature

Abstract: Purpose Fretting wear exists widely in the field of matching mechanical parts whereas previous research studies mostly focus on the point contact through a ball-plate tribometer. This paper aims to study the influence of wear debris on the fretting wear characteristics of the nitrided medium carbon steel under line contact condition at elevated temperature. Design/methodology/approach Fretting wear behavior of the nitrided medium carbon steel was experimentally investigated under line contact condition at el… Show more

“…Results show that atmosphere composition directly influences the oxidation process, consequently the fretting regimes and wear (Esteves et al, 2015;Cai et al, 2009;Wang et al, 2019aWang et al, , 2019bWang et al, , 2019cWang et al, , 2019d. For SAF 2507 SDSS, displacement amplitude, microstructure and temperature variation have been studied in detail in our previous works (Wang et al, 2019a(Wang et al, , 2019b(Wang et al, , 2019c(Wang et al, , 2019d. Nevertheless, the influence of load on fretting behavior of metals including SAF 2507 SDSS remains unclear.…”

“…However, it is a challenge for metallic materials to work in marine field to overcome the corrosion problem (Luo et al, 2009). SAF 2507 SDSS, as one of the latest generation of stainless steels, with better mechanical strength and corrosion resistance, is received extensive attention in marine industries (Wang et al, 2019a(Wang et al, , 2019b(Wang et al, , 2019c(Wang et al, , 2019dHan et al, 2016). When using in sea water environment, the sliding wear and corrosion of SAF 2507 SDSS have been concerned (Pintaude et al, 2019;Tan et al, 2009;Ezuber et al, 2007).…”

“…Zhang et al [ 27 ] evaluated the microstructure and fretting wear behavior of the 25CrNi2MoV steel. Wang [ 28 ] studied the influence of wear debris on the fretting wear characteristics of the nitrided medium carbon steel under line contact conditions at elevated temperatures. In addition, many researchers studied the protective capabilities of different coatings in fretting wear.…”
