“…The influence of sexual selection and polymorphism on species speciation occurs mainly at the pre-zygotic stage (West-Eberhard 1986; Coyne and Orr 1989; Gray and Cade 2000; Ritchie 2007). However, the influence of this stage in lacertids speciation is unclear: some species are partially able to recognize each other using pheromones (Barbosa et al 2006; Gabirot et al 2012), but interspecific courting seems to be frequent (Martín and López 2006; Galoyan et al 2019), suggesting that post-zygotic isolation also play a strong role in the speciation process (Carretero 2008; Pinho et al 2009). On the other hand, the groups in which an effect of sexual selection and polymorphism was reported are taxa where the pre-zygotic isolation is determinant for speciation (e.g birds, Barraclough et al 1995; Brambilla et al 2008).…”

“…For the present study we used nger phalanxes of rock lizards (Darevskia Arribas, 1997) from Armenia. The total number of age-estimated individuals using skeletochronological method (including those considered in the present paper) was 43, among which there were 13 We used paired Wilcoxon test to compare the gures of the esteemed age by counting the LAGs on the nger bone and the claw sheath of the same nger and performed Spearmen's rank correlation test (r s ) to compare these two data sets. The signi cance level was set up at p = 0.05 in each test.…”

“…Relying on longitudinal monitoring, ecological and behavioural studies suggest that toe-clipping and distal nger phalanx analysis should be used to collect the material [11][12][13][14][15]. These methods allow the researchers to conduct a life-long study to estimate the growth pattern of individuals.…”

“… Darevskia portschinskii co-exist in three SZs with “daughter” species D. dahli and D. rostombekowi in two SZs. Two parenteal bisexual species D. portschinskii and D. r. raddei co-exist in two SZs ( Uzzell and Darevsky 1975 , Galoyan et al 2019 , Galoyan et al 2020 ). All zones are mainly located in the lower band of mountain forests in relatively warm and arid forest and shrub biotopes.…”
