Silvia Fränkel,
Moritz Sterken,
Lisa Stinken-Rösner

Abstract: The paper presents a literature review on current barriers and boosters in the context of initial science teacher education for inclusion. The authors argue that current science teacher education programs for prospective teachers could be improved by adopting a more conceptually grounded and sustainable approach toward inclusion. “…Instructors' views have a substantial impact on IBL adoption, particularly in rural regions where instructors are less likely to use IBL in their lessons (Crotty, 2020). According to Fränkel et al (2023), science teachers' attitudes regarding enquiry-based methods influence their teaching practices; when teachers' basic values contradict enquiry practices, using IBL as a teaching strategy becomes challenging. Similarly, beliefs are one of the most significant problems that science teachers confront while using IBL as a teaching and learning strategy (Romero-Ariza, 2020).…”

“…The concept of Inclusive Teaching (IT) is more than catering to specific students' traits. The concept of Inclusive Teaching is found in the literature to address issues related to education for persons with or without special needs (Fränkel et al, 2023). However, Inclusive Teaching can also be defined in a broader sense, for example, the definition provided by Hockings (2010): "Inclusive learning and teaching in higher education refers to the ways in which pedagogy, curricula and assessment are designed and delivered to engage students in learning that is meaningful, relevant and accessible to all.…”
