From crimmigration to [re]integration following the removal of “undesirable” people from Australia to New Zealand.

Abstract

Editors' Note: Like Woolard (Chapter 11), the authors of this chapter examine crimmigration, in this case with a focus on emigrants from New Zealand who are living in Australia-and being deported back to New Zealand. Through two case studies, the authors describe the experiences of deportees and the lack of support they receive once back in New Zealand. As evidenced by these two chapters, and as mentioned in the chapters by Hendricks (Chapter 10) and Salas, Schweikart, and Hendricks (Chapter 12), crimmigration is a global phenomenon and a challenge faced by immigrants in many different countries. Important to this discussion is that, with the merging of criminal law and immigration law, it has become morally and legally easier to exclude those who "do not belong" in society.
