From Intermolecular Interactions to Texture in Polycrystalline Surfaces of 1,ω-alkanediols (ω = 10–13)

Abstract: Differences on herringbone molecular arrangement in two forms of long-chain 1,ω-alkanediols (CnH2n+2O2 with n = 10, 11, 12, 13) are explained from the analysis of O-H···O hydrogen-bond sequences in infinite chains and the role of a C-H···O intramolecular hydrogen-bond in stabilization of a gauche defect, as well as the inter-grooving effectiveness on molecular packing. GIXD (Glancing Incidence X-ray Diffraction) experiments were conducted on polycrystalline monophasic samples. Diffracted intensities were treat… Show more

“…As a class of high-value chemicals, long-chain diols, have attracted widespread attention from researchers, due to their unique properties and versatility in bactericides, cosmetic additives, and even the synthesis of biodegradable polyether. , Wherein, as a noncommercially available long-chain diol in previous studies, 1,13-tridecanediol (TDOL) is difficult to obtain . To date, its synthesis process is still stuck in the catalytic reduction obtained by the corresponding diacid, which suffers from high cost due to the complexity of the process.…”

“…A primary graphite monochromator was used. X-ray data processing, energetic calculations and synthesis of PTDOL from 15-hydroxypentadecanoic acid were performed according to our previously reported work, [4]. Optical microscopy analysis was performed with an Olympus BX51-P Polarized Light Microscope (PLM) incorporating a Linkham THMS600 stage.…”
