Mobile applications have a great proliferation nowadays. Their usage varies from personal applications to enterprise systems. Even though there has been proliferation, the development of mobile applications confronts some limitations and faces particular challenges. The usability is one of the main domains to attend in such systems. To improve this quality attribute we suggest incorporating to the software development process best practices from other disciplines, such as usability engineering and human-computer interaction. On the other hand, it's important to incorporate studies that assist to identify requirements of each mobile device capability to offer services in usable manner. In this paper we present a proposal to apply user oriented analysis and design, emphasizing specific practices, such as user and task analysis. Also, we present a case of study consisting in a mobile application for the iPhone device, which allows us to prove our proposal.

This paper describes participatory activities with university lecturers to design an online community. The objective of this study is to engage the users of an online community to collaboratively design their online community. We speculated that by involving them in the design team, we can identify their specific requirements, and they will accept and use the system. However, lecturers have heavy workload and tight schedule. For that reason, we thought that paper prototyping is the most suitable tool to be used because it is fast and easy to create. Therefore, paper prototyping technique has been adapted in a two-day participatory design session. We found that paper prototyping is indeed the most suitable technique to elicit requirements from the end users under a time constraint. Moreover, participants came out with unexpected requirements and novel interface.

The domain of Mixed Reality systems is currently making decisive advances on a daily basis. However, the knowledge and know-how of HCI scientists and interaction engineers, used in the design of such systems, is not well understood. This paper addresses this issue by proposing a software engineering method that couples a process for designing Mixed Reality interaction with a process for developing the functional core. Our development method features a Y-shaped development cycle that separates the description of functional requirements and their analysis from the study of technical requirements of the application. These sub-processes produce Business Objects and Interactional Objects, which are connected to produce a complete Mixed Reality system. The whole process is presented via a case study, with a particular emphasis on the design of the interactive solution.
