Abstract:This article investigates thermochemical irreversibilities of activation energy and concentration polarization in fuel cells. The predictive formulation uses the Butler-Volmer equation for the activation overpotential and it includes both Knudsen and self-diffusion for the concentration polarization. Entropy production of activation energy occurs due to a portion of cell voltage lost in driving the chemical reaction to transfer electrons to/from the electrode. In this article, exergy losses associated with the… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
