Fujianese Pioneers and Javanese Kings: Peranakan Chinese Lineage and the Politics of Belonging in West Java, 1890s–2000s

Abstract: On February 8, 2004, Tubagus (Tb.) Okkie Adhika Tirta Monterie gathered his family, along with the local religious and government officials of the district of Ciampea in Bogor, West Java, at the local Chinese cemetery for the unveiling of the recently re-discovered and refurbished tomb of his great-great-grandfather, Tb. Therefore, the presence of the Chinese people, especially from the Fujian (Hokkian) tribe in West Java -in this case, Bogor, and its relation to local rulers, especially in the late 19th and early 20th centuries [Seng, 2017] greatly in uenced the local life in Bogor, including its culinary or gastronomy.
