“…The faster publication of PPm as compared to PPo might support this hypothesis (Question 3), especially because 50% of the PPm were published during the same year in which the conference was held. This rate of publication is faster than both that observed for PPo in our study (17% in the conference year) and that described in the literature for articles derived from presentations at different ISSI Conferences (less than 30% of the papers were published in the conference year) (Aleixandre-Benavent et al, 2009). In the latter study we cannot discriminate between PPo and PPm, but it is interesting to underline that most papers were published the following year after the conference.…”

“…It accounted for 30-50% of conference papers in different medical subfields (Kho & Brouwers, 2009;Miguel-Dasit, Marti-Bonmati, Sanfeliu, Aleixandre, 2006) and for a third in scientometrics (Aleixandre-Benavent, Gonzalez-Alcaide, Miguel-Dasit, Navarro-Molina, & Valderrama-Zurián, 2009). Even in engineering, where scientific meetings are especially important for scholarly communication (Glanzel, Schlemmer, Schubert, & Thijs, 2006) and papers presented at conferences are deemed formal papers valid for assessing research and for tenure decisions (Montesi & Mackenzie, 2008), the practice of extending conference presentations into journal articles exists to some extent, probably to enhance the visibility and impact of the research.…”

“…International Society for Scientometrics and Infometrics (ISSI) found a publication rate of 31.7% post conference presentation in peer-reviewed journals (Aleixandre-Benavent et al, 2009). A study investigating librarian involvement in research activities such as integrating research into practice, conference presentation, publication, and grant writing reports a publication rate of 34% from librarian survey respondents (Lessick et al, 2016).…”

“…Other reasons supplied for not publishing included the belief that the material was not "substantive enough to merit a journal article" or that the respondents never intended to publish (Harvey and Wandersee, 2010 p.252). Selfcensoring by potential authors, lack of time, feeling the conference presentation was adequate, trouble with co-authors are often given as personal reasons for not publishing (Aleixandre-Benavent et al, 2009). Beyond author-related factors, conferences and annual meetings are seen as places to present preliminary, brief or technical content, and successful projects.…”
