Abstract:The design of an experimental electronic switching system presented many new problems in specifying the functions to be performed and in developing the means to carry them out. This resulted in the use of a number of techniques new to the telephone switching field. This paper, divided into two parts, describes some of these. Part One deals with a specification of what the system must do and with its general mode of operation; Part Two describes a control philosophy employing a stored program.
