“…Both soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy (sXAS) and density functional theory (DFT) results demonstrate that electrons transfer from the 2p orbital of O 2− to the e g orbital of TM sites (Ni 2+ and Mn 4+ ) via superexchange interactions within the basic coordination structure unit of Mn 4+ -O 2− -Ni 2+ in Ni-MnO 2 .
