Functional genomics of reproduction in pigs: Are we there yet?

Abstract: Reproductive failure is the main reason for culling females in swine herds and is both a financial and sustainability issue. Because reproductive traits are complex and lowly to moderately heritable, genomic selection within populations can achieve substantial genetic gain in reproductive efficiency. A better understanding of the physiological components affecting the expression of these traits will facilitate greater understanding of the genes affecting reproductive traits and is necessary to improve and opti… Show more

“…It has the characteristics of high frequency and stability, and SNP analysis is easier to automate and batch. 13 Therefore, using SNP as a genetic marker to screen for T2DM susceptibility genes is a very effective high-efficiency, low-cost method. The GWAS study of human T2DM has accumulated hundreds of related gene loci, such as TCF7L2, PPARG, and KCNJ11.…”

“…SNP is part of a new generation of genetic markers. It has the characteristics of high frequency and stability, and SNP analysis is easier to automate and batch 13 . Therefore, using SNP as a genetic marker to screen for T2DM susceptibility genes is a very effective high‐efficiency, low‐cost method.…”
