“…Endogenous H 2 S activates nitrate reductase (NR), which turns NAD(P)H and nitrate into NAD + and H 2 O. Nitrite is unstable and rapidly decomposes to form NO ( Besson-Bard et al, 2008 ; Liang et al, 2018 ). In addition, H 2 S can activate NADPH oxidase (NOX), which forms O 2 – by transferring electrons, which then produces H 2 O 2 via superoxide dismutase (SOD) ( Karpets et al, 2020 ). “…Thus, on the one hand, the effects of antagonism between nitric oxide and hydrogen sulfide are possible, and on the other hand, NO may mediate the signal transduction induced by H 2 S. The involvement of ROS and NO as mediators in stress-protective action of the hydrogen sulfide donor is also indicated by the data obtained on wheat seedlings subjected to heating. Induction of wheat seedlings heat tolerance by the hydrogen sulfide donor NaHS was accompanied by a transient increase in hydrogen peroxide and nitric oxide content in the roots as well as by an increase in nitrate reductase activity ( Karpets et al., 2020 ).
