Functions of Nominalization in Scientific News Discourse

Abstract: Under the framework of systemic-functional linguistics, the present study makes much effort to demonstrate the specific functions of nominalization in scientific news discourse. Through the analysis of the data, the discovered functions of nominalization are conciseness, objectivity, formality, thematic connection, and pragmatic presupposition.
