Fundamental properties and performance of conventional bearings-only target motion analysis

Abstract: Abstruct -This paper considers the problem of estimating the position and velocity of an object from noise corrupted bearing measurements obtained by a single m o h g observation platform. The process is inherently nonlinear and exbibits unusual obsenability properties that are geometrydependent. A maximum likelihood estimate W E ) of the target motion analysis solution is developed and its performance analyzed. A comparison is drawn between the lMLE and two previously reported methods, a nonlinear modified-in… Show more

“…Note that e ∈ Σ i+j− ⇒ė i > 0, e i < 0 andė j < 0, e j > 0 ⇒ e k = 0 and e = |e j | (30) using the definition of regions where i, j, k ∈ {1, 2, 3} are distinct indices. We proceed using an inductive-like argument.…”

“…The target is modelled by general state space representation that consists of system model for the dynamics and observation model [5,6,7] for the measurement process with non-linear formula. The system model used is a single CT model (no separate models fpr clockwise and anticlockwise CTs as in [1]).…”

“…For many years, an acoustic sensor based association has been investigated in many tracking applications [3][4][5][6][7]. Two simple approaches are the nearest neighbor filter (NNF) and the strongest neighbor filter (SNF) [2,8].…”
