Fungal air-spora inside the central library of Gorakhpur University

Abstract: The study of the air-spora in the Central Library of Gorakhpur University indicated the presence of 19 different types of fungal spores. Amongst these Aspergillus niger, A.flavus, Cladosporium spp., Curvularia spp., Paecilomyces sp., Penicillium spp., and periconia sp. were more than 80.5% followed by species of Absidia, Alternaria, Chaetomium, Mucor, Rhizopus, Trichophyton, and Cercospora. Fungal spores showed time trends during the study period. The fungal spore concentrations gradually increased from July t… Show more

“…Many cellulose decomposing fungi such as Allernaria, Monilia, Fusarium, Chaetomiulll, Myrolhecilll11, Torula, Slachybolrys, Cladosporium, Paecilomyces, RILizopus and Epicoccum were also reported from a library of Aurangabad (Tilak & Saibaba, 1984). The high prevalence of Cladosporiwn, Penicillium and Alternaria inside libraries are also reported by Tripathi (1987), Tilak and Pillai (1988) and Singh el ai., (1990) Species of Aspergillus, Penicillium and Cladosporium were in great abundance in the indoor air of library of Madras University (Nadimuthu & Vittal, 1995). The agitation of books causes marked increase in the concentration of fungal spores (Burge el al., 1978;Singh et ai., 1990;Vittal & Glory, 1985).…”

“…Among these, 6 species of 2 genera belong to zygomycotina, 2 species of 1 genera belong to ascomycotinaand 67 species of 20 genera belong to deuteromycotina were isolated and identified from indoor and outdoors respectively. Among the total number of identified fungal species, Aspergillus was represented by 15 Based on comparative analysis of the occurrence of dominant fungal species with their contribution in indoor and outdoorof the schools, Cladosporiumcladosporieds (16.38%) contributed maximum in both indoor and outdoor followed by Alternariaalternata (9.65%) and Cladosporiumherbarum (8.81%). Data of the annual occurrence revealed that Cladosporiumcladosporieds was the highest with (17.40%) in indoors and (15.31%) in outdoors, and Alternariaalternata recorded higher in indoor (11.56%) than outdoor (7.65%).…”
