Furanodiene: A Novel, Potent, and Multitarget Cancer-fighting Terpenoid

Abstract: : Natural products have served as a limitless reservoir of bioactive scaffolds for drug discovery against several disorders. Furanodiene is a bioactive natural product which is isolated from several plants of genus Curcuma. Its therapeutic potential against cancer, inflammation and angiogenesis has been well-documented. The current review is an update about the natural sources and anti-cancer action mechanism of furanodiene. Furanodiene exerts its anti-cancer effects via induction of apoptosis in several cance… Show more

“…In addition, sesquiterpenoids in Curcumae Rhizoma, including zedoarondiol (18), furanodiene (139), and δ-elemene (213), have cytotoxic activity against leukemia cells [95][96][97]. Furthermore, certain compounds, including curcumol (55), germacrone (116), furanodiene (139), and β-elemene (211), have been found to exhibit broad-spectrum cancer-related activity through various pathways [80,[98][99][100][101].…”

“…1,2 For instance, b-elemene, curcumol, curcumenol, furanodiene and furanodienone have already proved to be important components exhibiting anti-cancer bioactivities. [3][4][5][6] In addition, diarylheptanoids, alkaloids, polysaccharides and some other types of compounds are also found in Curcumae radix. 2 Most of the isolated compounds of Curcumae radix have been found in C. wenyujin and C. longa.…”
