“…All were taken from one continuous recording. stretch but has little effect on the response during shortening (Crowe & Matthews, 1964;Lennerstrand & Thoden, 1968). The response during shortening is dominated by static fusimotor activity (see p. 211 of Matthews, 1972).…”

“…As with soleus (Crowe & Matthews, 1964b), any individual fusimotor fibre was then found to produce the same action, whether static or dynamic, on all the endings that it influenced. In the eleven experiments (including those using both methods of selecting fusimotor fibres) sixteen endings were found to be influenced in a dynamic manner by fusimotor fibres, each of which had already been classified as a dynamic fibre by its action on another ending, and fifteen endings were found to be influenced in a static manner by fusimotor fibres, each of which had already been classified as a static fibre by its action on another ending.…”

“…Similar or larger sensitivities were found for de-efferented primary endings when the muscle tension was appreciable. During stimulation of dynamic fusimotor fibres the sinusoidal sensitivity may also be high (Crowe & Matthews, 1964).…”
